The upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks just worked. Hats off to the Apple engineers for making the upgrade from an older OS X and apps so smooth. Handy to know if you’re trying to get the maximum time running on your laptop’s battery. Apple tuned the energy efficiency of Safari, and they reckon it now uses about one third the energy of Firefox. Using the energy meter, over time software developers will see if their software is inefficient with energy, and hopefully tune it up. It lets me work out which apps are draining my battery, and I can change how I use the app, close it, or use an alternative, e.g. It shows which apps are chewing the most battery, both right now, and over time. I really like the new energy meter tab in Maverick’s enhanced Activity Monitor utility. Looks like I might get 4 hours working, instead of 2 to 3 hours. Oh well.Īnd how is battery life? Too early to say, plus I never timed it on Snow Leopard. I thought this was a bug, but I did a bit of digging, and it turns out that my MacBook Pro was a shade too old to support this feature. The AirPlay Mirroring icon never showed up in the menu bar however. My HDTV is hooked up to an Apple TV, and I used Airplay Mirroring to mirror my screen from my MacBook Air to the HDTV previously. I’d really hoped to use Airplay Mirroring on my MacBook Pro to use my HDTV as an extra screen. It put the incompatible kernel extensions ( kexts) from these apps into a Incompatible Software folder. The Mavericks upgrade detected two apps on my Snow Leopard laptop that weren’t compatible – VMware Fusion and Flip4Mac. I had a contingency plan: My MacBook Pro backs up regularly to an Apple AirPort Time Capsule I figured if they upgrade failed, I could always go back to Snow Leopard using a Time Machine backup. I actually thought it was pretty likely the Mavericks upgrade to my Snow Leopard MacBook Pro would most likely fail. The hang for the Mavericks upgrade from Mountain Lion for the MacBook Air turned out to be not that big a deal – a simple fix, and the upgrade was complete. my MacBook Pro: mid-2010 model, Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard (4 year old product), lots of older software & exotic utilities.my MacBook Air: mid-2011 model, Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (1 year old product), not much software. The Snow Leopard to Mavericks upgrade ran without a hitch, for my MacBook Pro.įunnily, the Mavericks upgrade hung with the “ spinning beach ball of death“ for my simpler, more modern MacBook Air. My main pull to upgrade to Mavericks, was the potential for improved battery life – my MacBook Pro flies through its battery. AirPort Utility 6.3.1 resolves an issue where AirPort base stations may not appear in AirPort Utility. I just upgraded my MacBook Pro from OS X Snow Leopard to Mavericks. Use AirPort Utility to set up and manage your 802.11n and 802.11ac AirPort base stations, including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time Capsule.

These are the five plants I recommend, because they are tougher than Chuck Norris and have been tried and tested in my house for a long time, but there are many more.It is very rare to see people having troubles with our login system, a guide should still be ready to prevent any mishaps. As this plant’s natural habitat is similar to the Maranta’s, its requirements are also similar: high humidity, moist, but not damped, soil and low diffuse light. And I totally get it, those holey leaves are almost sexy. This Central American tropical plant is the queen of Pinterest. Water it and wait a while until it’s fresh and lush again. What I like the most about this plant are its clear signs before drying out: its leaves will start to look droopy. It’s not bothered by low air humidity, but we’ll have to water it a lot (no flooding!) when the soil starts to dry. It can tolerate darker spots, but it won’t flower. It grows better with a lot of diffuse light (no direct sunlight). This plant can grow up to a pretty big size, and has precious inflorescences that last for long. If there is too much light or direct sunlight, leaves will appear more pale, but in general, this plant is almost indestructible. Water it thoroughly (but no flooding) when you notice the soil dry and voila. The alpha and the omega of indoor houseplants. And by the way, don’t get confused by the “tropical”: the soil must be humid, but never flooded. It also requires high humidity (it’s tropical!) so, if you live in a dry place, the bathroom is going to be this plant’s favorite spot. Light must be diffuse and not excessive in order to maintain the spots on the leaves. Its natural habitat is tropical, growing under the forest canopy, so no direct sunlight for it. This plant comes from Brazil and its leaves are more beautiful than any flower. It also tolerates several degrees of humidity. I water a bit when the soil starts to feel dry when I touch it. With respect to water, it is better not to flood it. Direct sunlight doesn’t make it very happy, but it will tolerate various degrees of diffuse light (leaves will be darker or lighter according to the amount of light). Let’s go! Chamaedorea elegans (Parlour palm)Ī small palm tree native from Mexico that fits in every corner and is extraordinarily easy to take care of. That’s why I’ve put together a list of really though plants that will endure any indoor environment: tiny studios in big citys, student dorm rooms, small flats with little light… In real life, there are plants that won’t endure the lack of light, the excessive humidity of poorly ventilated places or the lack of thereof caused by air conditioning and heating. However, not all of us live in one of those dream-like, Pinterest worthy houses: huge and full of enormous windows with the soft breeze of spring caressing your skin and the light inundating the place like a silk veil. What else can you ask for? I guess if they watered themselves, it’d be just perfect. Not only are they interesting and fresh element, but also purify the air. Remarkably, the two songs cut in 2012 - presumably because neither song was performed live in the '80s - do indeed showcase at their raucous, barroom best. Two other cuts come from the era - 'If This Is It' was cut in 1986 'Bad Is Bad' is from 1987 - and these, like the performances, are precise, professional, and a bit too polished the sound of arena rockers, not a bar band. As a matter fact, only 'Walking on a Thin Line' - here introduced with 'this is another one off the new record,' a phrase that often sends audiences rushing to the nearest beer stand - dates from 1983, with the vast majority dating from 1987-1989, when the band was recording and promoting, the 1988 album that brought their streak of hits to a close. Members later went on to partake in bands such as. J37 Tape (88 off) With a variety of user-adjustable controls including Tape Speed, Bias, Noise, Saturation, Wow and Flutter, the Waves: Abbey Road J37 faithfully recreates the inimitable sonic signature of the original machine. Not all of these nine songs date from the supporting tour for. This EP consists of three original tracks as well as a cover by San Diegos political punk band, Struggle. For the 30th Anniversary of, the 1983 blockbuster that turned into super stars, the album was given a sparkling new remaster and expanded into a two-disc set containing a second CD comprised entirely of live versions of the album's nine songs. There's a reason why well over half of the album ('The Heart of Rock & Roll,' 'Heart and Soul,' 'I Want a New Drug,' 'Walking on a Thin Line,' 'If This Is It') were huge American hit singles - they have instantly memorable hooks driven home with economical precision by a tight bar band who are given just enough polish to make them sound like super stars. Using these relatively small partitions instead of the entire disks was a practical necessity, since ext4 needs to grovel over the entire created filesystem and disperse preallocated metadata blocks throughout. When we tested mdadm and ext4, we didn't really use the entire disk-we created a 1TiB partition at the head of each disk and used those 1TiB partitions. We also had to invoke arcane arguments- mkfs.ext4 -E lazy_itable_init=0,lazy_journal_init=0-to avoid ext4's preallocation from contaminating our results. In the next article in this series-on ZFS tuning and optimization-we'll update to the brand-new Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and a much newer ZFS on Linux 0.8.3. We tested with 0.7.5 anyway-much to the annoyance of at least one very senior OpenZFS developer-because when we ran the tests, 18.04 was the most current Ubuntu LTS and one of the most current stable distributions in general. It's worth noting that ZFS on Linux 0.7.5 is two years old now-there are features and performance improvements in newer versions of OpenZFS that weren't available in 0.7.5. Each of the tests was run with both 4K and 1M blocksizes, and I ran the tests both with a single process and iodepth=1 as well as with eight processes with iodepth=8.įor all tests, we're using ZFS on Linux 0.7.5, as found in main repositories for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Then I stumbled across Talkatone! The free version allows you to dial and speak to anyone on any number whether the subscribe to Talkatone or not. After reviewing and trying several options, I couldn’t find an app that was free unless you were contacting someone else who was also a subscriber to the same app. My mobile phone stopped working and I needed a texting solution. Hands down the BEST VOIP app Great value, great service We apologize for the inconvenience this causes you. Talkatone has recently been made of aware of this issue, and we are currently looking into it. Hello, thank you for your review & feedback. Otherwise I am extremely happy I’ve even thought about buying the package to disable ads and my only worry is that it would not fix the App Store opening up. Talk atone if you are listening to this review I love you guys I can even send you video of what I’m experiencing but something needs to be done because this is crap. And then it’s frustration time because you have to close both applications the App Store and Talkatone and then re-launch Talkatone to continue were you were texting only for a few minutes later to start the process all over again. Which I assume means that I’m trying to get the American app Stor when I’m really in Japan not sure what that’s all about but even if I close out talk atone and reopen it and go back to texting it’s only a matter of seconds before the App Store starts opening up. Even if I close it it really opens it and it takes me to some dating site or something weird sometimes it says I’m in the wrong App Store. Whenever I am texting someone my phone opens the App Store. But I’m gonna blame them anyway because it is their app. I do however experience a very very annoying treat and I’m not sure if Talkatone is responsible for it or not. I get calls from the states I can text everything goes through quickly I’m not sure why everyone else is complaining about lag I don’t experience any of it. So this app has worked perfect for me while I’m living in Japan. Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.
